What a wonderful experience to finally become a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. Thank you to the Omega Phi Zeta Chapter @ophizcville for guiding me throughout this process and welcoming me into the sisterhood. To @queeniebeenie94 who was the only person I could imagine going through this process with, (cause whats better than one zeta? TWO!) and to my family who encouraged me every step of the way.

Nothing like a quick business trip to one of my favorite cities. One thing about me, when I travel for work I’m always going to make time and space to have some fun and try new things!

+ Brunch with the girls at @acebounce was a whole vibe y’all! Unlimited food, drinks, games, and kareoke for 3 hours! 🙌🏽

+ After 3 years of not being in person, it was so nice to attend #4C23 and present my scholarship on Black Digital Media and technology. I also had the opportunity to present on a panel discussing my journey on the job market and how I successfully landed a tenure-track job 2 months before I defended my dissertation!

The 4Cs, which stands for “Conference on College Composition & Communication.” is a national convention for my academic field. It is a long yet fulfilling 3 days of networking, catching up with old friends, and meeting brilliant scholars in the field.

+ Got to make a rug and tap into my creative side which I look forward to exploring more of this year. If you didn’t know, I love making things and anything related to art and visuals. This was my first time rug tuffing, and I’m so happy with the results. *I can’t wait to get my rug in the mail😍

Shoutout to the best host who made my quick visit a memorable one filled with lots of laughter and love . The midwest will always be home and its always a great time when I’m back!

Welcoming the start of a new semester after a winter study abroad in Ireland focusing on Civil Rights, Social Justice, & Peace ✊🏽.

We had an amazing time even through the Irish winter wind and rain.

I was encouraged to learn how the Irish drew upon the civil rights movements in the U.S as they also fought for their rights. It illuminates this quote, which we saw along the trip:

Day 1 leading my first study abroad to Ireland, along with my colleague Dr. Hallmon and Dr. Margaret. The focus of this program is Civil Rights, Social Justice, and Peace Studies in Ireland and we are so excited to be here!

3 colleges are participating which makes about 50 students all together on this study abroad trip!

Although majority of our journey will be in Donegal, we spent the first day in Dublin and had a free afternoon before dinner which you see here.

But I’m glad it did.

Another semester complete! This week I celebrated

Another semester complete! This week I celebrated with my students the last day of class🎉

A quick recap of the semester: I had the privilege of teaching two first year writing courses and a graduate seminar “Critical Questions in Writing Rhetoric and Technical Communication”. I also had the honor of seeing my graduate advisee pass her capstone defense meeting as she prepares for her Spring internship & graduation next year.

Fall 2022 was a long and busy one for many reasons!

The first “normal” year back since covid-19 restrictions. Many people falling sick throughout the semester. Having to extend grace and compassion to those struggling. And balancing my own writing, research, and consulting outside of teaching.

College can be tough but my students pushed through and I’m so very proud of them!

Now, this professor needs to finish final grades so I can sleep and enjoy the long winter break ❄️

My classes are small so I can afford to do this! I know how hard college can be and I try to make the last week one that isn’t so stressful. We always throw a party and have presentations in the 7 years I’ve been teaching at the college level.

I challenge my students to think critically through their writing and research over the semester, so the last day is more of a celebration for those who have put in the work! #EndOfSemester #Reelmas #Vlogmas #Professor #Educator
